چکیده
In this study, we implement attosecond afterburners in an ultrashort soft X-ray free-electron laser (FEL) to improve the performance of generating pulses. scheme, FEL pulse produced normal radiator section is dumped while well bunched electron beam reserved and reused downstream afterburners. Subsequently, radiation gains rapidly as bunching factor current spike large, making much shorter cleaner than that from a radiator. Multi-shot simulations are carried out demonstrate stability proposed technique.

Reflection of attosecond x-ray free electron laser pulses.
In order to utilize hard x-ray free electron lasers (XFEL's) when they are extended to attosecond pulse lengths, it is necessary to choose optical elements with minimal response time. Specular grazing-incidence optics made of low-Z materials are popular candidates for reflectors since they are likely to withstand x-ray damage and provide sufficiently large reflectivities. Using linear-optics re...

متن کاملProposal for intense attosecond radiation from an x-ray free-electron laser.
We propose the use of an ultrarelativistic electron beam interacting with a few-cycle, intense laser pulse and an intense pulse of the coherent x rays to produce a multi-MW intensity, x-ray pulses approximately 100 attoseconds in duration. Because of a naturally occurring frequency chirp, these pulses can be further temporally compressed.
متن کاملFeasibility considerations of a soft-x-ray distributed feedback laser pumped by an x-ray free electron laser
We discuss the feasibility of a soft-x-ray distributed feedback laser (DFL) pumped by an xray free electron laser (X-FEL). The DFL under consideration is a Mg/SiC bi-layered Bragg reflector pumped by a single X-FEL bunch at 57.4 eV, stimulating the Mg L2,3 emission at 49 eV corresponding to the 3s-3d -> 2p1/2,3/2 transition. Based on a model developed by Yariv and Yeh and an extended coupled-wa...
متن کاملReabsorption of soft x-ray emission at high x-ray free-electron laser fluences.
We report on oxygen K-edge soft x-ray emission spectroscopy from a liquid water jet at the Linac Coherent Light Source. We observe significant changes in the spectral content when tuning over a wide range of incident x-ray fluences. In addition the total emission yield decreases at high fluences. These modifications result from reabsorption of x-ray emission by valence-excited molecules generat...
